  ALEJO CARPENTIER  (1904-1980)

Cuban novelist, essayist, and musicologist, he noticeably influenced the development of Latin-American literature, in particular through his writing style that involves all the dimensions of imagination - dreams, myths, magic, and religion – in his idea of reality. Author of classical works of universal literature, diplomat, and journalist, he received the Cervantes Prize in 1977.
