This Camagüey-born athlete became champion of the 100 meters at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla, 1946; Guatemala 1950 and Mexico 1954. He had the privilege of competing at the Olympic Games of London 1948 and Helsinki 1952 aided by public contributions, becoming the first Cuban to arrive to a final race of 100 meters in this sort of competition. His presence at the Panamerican Games was remembered when he gained gold medals in the final races of 100 and 200 meters in Buenos Aires 1951. In further competitions, in Mexico, 1955 and Chicago, 1959 he was the best in the hectometer.
