Since very young, he was related to top figures of Cuban ethnology. Being 21 years old, he was among the founders of the Cuban Academy of Sciences. He is the most published living Cuban writer inside and outside the country. His bibliography exhibits tens of works, some of which have been conceived for the big screen. He is the president of the Fernando Ortiz foundation and has received tens of decorations in several countries of the world.
