She was born in Santiago de Las Vegas, in Havana. She has been one of the main figures of Cuban song since her debut in 1935. Having a mezzo-soprano voice, she is considered the greatest interpreter of the Ernesto Lecuona repertoire and probably of those of Gonzalo Roig and Adolfo Guzmán. In 2003, she received the National Prize of Television, a mass medium that has her among its founders.
