  ARNALDO TAMAYO MÉNDEZ  (1942-)

He was born in Guantánamo. He is the first Latin American in having gone to the cosmos, which took place during a week from September 18th, 1980 together with the soviet cosmonaut Yuri Romanenko. Upon his return, Tamayo was decorated in Moscow with the Lenin Order and the Golden Star of Hero of the Soviet Union. When he arrived to Cuba, he received the first medal of Hero of the Republic of Cuba.
