Outstanding revolutionary born in Camagüey, he was an extraordinary university student and president of the First National Student Congress. That same year he founded the José Martí Popular University. He created the Anticlerical League and in 1925, the Cuban Section of the Anti-imperialist League of the Americas. The same year he founded the first Cuban Communist Party.
