Hailing from Santiago de Cuba, she is an indispensable figure of Cuban song. She founded in the threshold of the 1950’s the anthological quartet “Las D’Aida”, together with Elena Burke, Moraima Secada, and Haydée Portuondo; with them she would share the most important scenarios in Cuba, New York, México, Puerto Rico, and other Latin-American countries. Several decades after that, she became the diva of the famous Buena Vista Social Club. She stands out owing to her vocal quality, vast expressive resources, and interpretative versatility.
