  MANUEL CORONA  (1880-1950)

He is one of the great of Cuban “trova”. Hailing from Caibarién, Villa Clara, he moves to Havana where he becomes a fecund composer. He achieves popularity with “Mercedes”, then other pieces would join the national patrimony: “Longina”, “Santa Cecilia”, “Doble inconsciencia”, and also some “guarachas” inspired in events of his time: “El Servicio Obligatorio” (The Obligatory Service), “Acelera Ñico” (Speed-Up Ñico), among others. Despite enjoying popular preference and fame, he died poor and lonely.
